selkie altar
The folklore of the Selkie has long been a favorite for me. A seal woman, trapped on land and longing to return to the sea. We all feel her longing for something else- a sense of not belonging at some point in our lives. Being caught in some yearning state of the in-between and uncomfortable in the skin we find ourselves in, who we’ve become.
Diving deep we find ourselves again, reclaim our own skin. Emerge from the depths in joy and buoyancy once more. At home in our own element- whatever that reveals itself to be.
This altar is a gesture of love to all creatures shedding old skin, feeling deep longing for change and to my own Irish ancestry. The story of the Selkie reminds us to honor the feelings of discomfort that come up while being human- and to profoundly enjoy this life of constant change right here in our own silky pelt.
